Why Silent Chain?

Silent chain offers today’s drive designer unique advantages and options for transmitting power smoothly, efficiently, and economically. Capable of transmitting loads and speeds that exceed the capacity of all other chains and belts, silent chain provides proven technology that is found in applications throughout modern industry. Silent chain also produces very little vibration or noise, and operates at efficiencies as high as 99%. Add to these features a wide range of standard chain and sprocket sizes and the result is an extremely flexible and powerful system for power transmission.

High Load and Speed Capability

RPV drives are capable of speeds in excess of 7000 fpm (35.5 m/s) and loads exceeding 3000 hp (2,240 kw).

Less Wear, Longer Life

Innovative production methods maximize the amount of load bearing surface in each link and greatly reduce the rate of chain elongation during operation.

Smooth Operation

RPV sprockets employ an involute tooth profile to de- crease impact loading and vibration during chain en- gagement. This results in less vibration and less wasted energy.

Consistent High Quality

All RPV links are shot peened to improve fatigue strength and produce a high quality finish. Chains are pre stressed to seat components and precisely control pitch.*
